BAIBS Tuesday 1/10/13

October. Means nothing really apart from it's the day after September and I used to think it was a shampoo ingredient. (Yes Nicole, I nicked that from The Big Yin).

So when did it last rain? I don't ask out of any real meteorological concern or despair at the welfare of our farmers. Just a general I can't remember thing. My point is I've just mate a mate for a drink in Thorne and got very wet. In a puddle. Where has this puddle appeared from? Could any Thornesians tell me if you've had different weather to Donny please or is Thorne just a damp place.

Oh and hats off to the lad who got on the train at Thorne and asked for a return ticket. When asked where to he replied, in all seriousness, 'Thorne.'

The Russian Princess wanted money. I'd have thought being a princess she'd be loaded. I don't know what she thinks a barman earns but it's not enough to keep her housed in The Winter Palace .Maybe I'll have more luck with the Nigerian ambassador's daughter who's kindly emailed me. So glad my spam filter's working well!!! And now Facebook's at it! Surely Christian women who want to meet me would dress more appropriately.

I mentioned the barman thing. I firmly believe, along with hosting a radio show, it's the best job in the world. I also firmly believe everyone should have to try it for a month too and maybe we'd get less abuse. You don't wave money at the checkout staff in Tesco, or call them OI!, or shout demanding service while they're obviously serving someone else. My favourite one was when I worked at the Tut. A busy student night and some twonk leaned through the end of the bar to kick me, only gently I'll admit, and said I'm next. I told him he'd get served when I decided if he thought kicking the staff was OK. To give him his due he then waited patiently for half an hour only for me to turn round and tell him he's barred. See think twice before treating your bar staff like crap. We have the power! Oh and I've worked in kitchens too. Seriously, don't ever upset the waiting staff. The courgette story is not for a family blog.

A cracking show this morning even if I do say so myself. One of my best. Obviously the good night's sleep and up in time for coffee, cigarettes and a shower make all the difference. It was just one of those shows that flowed perfectly. I believe the phrase is 'in the zone'. I'm out tonight to see The Darlingtons in Sheffield so no doubt after a few beers and a late night normal service will resume tomorrow. Expect mumbling and woefully inaccurate traffic reports.

Coffee time. I've just been told it's behind the soap powder. That doesn't bode well for the first cup at 5:30am tomorrow. Still, it'll mean no swearing on the radio.
