BAIBS Thursday 8/11/12

The hut stood atop a hill, not cosy but functional. Two rooms. The old man who lived there had done so for longer than he could remember. Given he was 723 years old hardly suprising. His name was, his name was not important. Nestled into the foot of the hill was a small village. Few of the inhabitants knew of the old man in the hut, fewer still cared. Of those that cared rumour was that the old man was the wisest man ever to roam the earth. Bagshot The Believer chose to visit the old man in the hope of gaining knowledge.

He strode up the hill one mist filled morning till he was above the clouds and knocked on the old shack's door. 'Come' the old man insisted and Bagshot walked inside tentatively. 'Is it true you're the wisest man ever?' he asked. The old man looked at him. 'I have lived', he said, 'The berries on the tree may be green but are they fit for rolling?' Bagshot looked in awe. This made no sense to him but he presumed it to be very deep and beyond his comprehension. 'How old are you?' Bagshot enquired. 'My toes no longer treddle on the waters of worms if that's what you mean.' came the reply.

Bagshot nodded then realised, again, he didn't have a clue what this meant. Doubt seeped into The Believer's mind. 'Are you not the font of all knowledge?' he asked, desperately. 'When the skies are full of Mamadukes then the cheese is ready.' Bagshot's body sank. No longer, if ever, wise. Just wizened. A wasted journey. He made his apologies and went to leave. 'Wait', said the old man, 'I've something to show you.' The old man shuffled out the room and Bagshot left. He couldn't bare to see the old man come back with an octopus in a bucket, or something, thinking it was the answer to all Bagshot's questions.

Bagshot sulked his way down the hill, followed only by the smell of boiled octopus. The old man stood in his empty hut, 4 leather bound volumes in his hands that must have weighed more than the man himself. The parchment still crisp and as the sunlight caught it it shone like a new day. The writing so exquisite as to make a grown man weep. 'I wrote it all down' said the old man. 'I knew I was losing my faculties so wrote it all down. Everything. All knowledge.' But Bagshot was long gone. He, nor anyone else, ever returned to the hut. The old man never left it.

There's a moral to all this but I'm buggered if I know what it is.

As mentioned in Monday's blog I went to Ingoldmells on Tuesday to pick up a table. Went past Humberside airport. There's a Thunderbird 3 there. This excited me greatly. My favourite Thunderbird. Sadly underused. Thunderbird 1 was just dull, Thunderbird 2 ugly. Thunderbird 4 looked like a Renault 4 but Thunderbird 3 was immense! Red. And a proper rocket. A proper red rocket!!! Unfortunately Cherry Blossom wouldn't stop and strap it to her roof so I still don't own a Thunderbird 3. Still, soon be Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas I'm being followed on Twitter by a reindeer. Less scary than being followed down the street by a reindeer but a bit odd all the same. He's called Randy. Make your own jokes up.

Found out today my University Challenge opponent, Lesley the cushty librarian, used to be a Diddyman. Small world!

Well back to my chores (washing up and sausages) then back to Sine to co-host Livewire with Rob. Basically all I do is try to put him off and list people I wished no longer breathed in.
