BAIBS Thursday 7/03/13

Belize! Brilliant. Hello there.

Viz vests. Walking in at 6am and they're everywhere. Well, not everywhere. There's not that many people about but those that are seem to be sporting the bright yellow, sometimes orange, garments. I feel out of place. The only other person I came across this morning without a viz vest was a window cleaner. Though I walked right into him so maybe viz vests for pedestrians should be compulsory. Saying that the viz vest does seem to be the pedestrian equivalent of the drivers' hazard lights. Some people seem to think if you bang your hazards on and any manoeuvre in a vehicle is allowed. U-turn on a motorway? Reversing down a crowded pavement? Invading a Middle East nation? Stick your hazard lights on and it's all fine. Want to walk four abreast down the pavement and not get out of people's way? Wear viz vests. Suddenly stop and cause a pedestrian pile up? Viz vest. Invade a Middle East nation? Viz vest. Should you choose to invade by foot of course. The government have said they're sending protective clothing to Syria, Viz vests!

I watched something on BBC4 last night about the oldest joke ever. It was very interesting but it turns out the oldest joke discovered was Egyptian, from about 1800BC and was an unfunny fart joke. By Rameses Boardman III.

Was gonna rant about ManU but decided enough has been said already. Every football fan at some point has bemoaned a refereeing decision that may have cost them the game. Put up and shut up. Plus personally I thought it was a red card anyway.

I've remembered the Simpsons thing I mentioned yesterday. I mentioned something on facebook the other day about Family Guy and someone commented they didn't like it cos, like The Simpsons, it wasn't realistic. It's a cartoon about yellow people with only 4 digits on each hand. Of course it's not realistic. That erudite and statesmanlike George W. Bush once stated that the problem with American family life was that more families were like the Simpsons as oppose to the Waltons. Who remembers The Waltons? If you do I'll bet you only remember one or two things about it. Goodnight John-Boy. Always John-Boy. Does anyone remember any other character? And some people may remember the theme tune. You know it. Der der derr der der derrrr der. If memory serves me correctly they lived on Walton Mountain. Was that a family heirloom or did they buy the mountain and arrogantly change it's name? Maybe it was just happy coincidence that The Waltons bought an 8 bedroomed shack on Walton Mountain. That's all people remember though. Story line anyone?

I cant believe I've just ranted about The Waltons and somewhat more surprisingly I've a serious point. The Waltons never shared a cross word. All was sweetness and light. The Simpsons all have failings, some more than others, but these failings are accepted and forgiven. The Waltons is the far more disfunctional family. Think I may have lost it a bit. Still making more sense than George W. Bush though.

Mark Kelly joined me again this morning. As you can see from the playlist we talk too much. Ten songs less than usual. Ish. And only 8 songs played in the last hour. Seriously good fun though.

Off for a lie down.
