BAIBS Monday 13/05/13

Another late one due to napping and feeling unbelievably nauseous. It's probably the excesses of another Championship weekend in Donny but I did have some kippers earlier and they're not sitting well at all. I'm thinking Fawlty Towers Kipper And The Corpse so if I'm found dead in a laundry basket tomorrow you'll know why.

So the weekend started Friday night. Leopard gig was cancelled due to a singer wanting to save his voice which meant I could get down to The Grand St. Leger Hotel for the T-Fest launch party and the Famous Villains live. For T-Fest think MapFest but in Tickhill. It takes place September 21st and with the likes of the Villains, Bang Bang Romeo, Avit, Jery At Controls, Rita Payne, The Mick Simpson Band and Stafford Galli  already on board it's looking good. For more details check it all out at http://www.t-fest.co.uk/  As regards the launch night when will people learn not to let me lose on a free bar? Famous Villains were magnificent as ever. And great shoes Charlotte!

Saturday was all bout making history. Donny lad Jamie McDonnell and his fight for the IBF bantamweight Championship of the World at the Keepmoat. Again a massive thanks to Dennis Hobson and Neal Hargreaves for the hospitality. Free food this time and somewhere warm to hover between fights. It was pigging freezing Saturday night. First on the bill was Bentley heavyweight Carl Spencer. Dennis is determined to get me in the ring with the 6'7" Tower Of Power. He does this:

That's me in the background checking out my potential opposition. It's not gonna happen!

The McDonnell/Ceja fight was a classic. The general consensus pre fight was if it gets past 5 rounds Jamie will win. After 5 rounds I had it 4-1, maybe 3-2, to Ceja. Then Jamie showed his skill, speed and resilience and apart from a worrying couple of blows in the 11th he totally dominated. His performance in the 12th round was some of the finest boxing I've ever seen. In and out with blistering combos that had Ceja swinging at space still trying to work out what had just happened. We all had Jamie down as having edged it. Nervous times as the MC announced a majority win and then Doncaster has it's first ever World Champion. History made.

The aftershow party seemed to be all over Donny. Every pub had fans singing Jamie's name. Which ultimately lead to a very messy night and a very long shift at The Leopard Sunday afternoon.

Today's show had a gem of a live set from Sheffield band The Ratells. Quality tunes with harmonies to make a grown man cry. I stand by my on air statement 'If you weren't at least tapping your feet to that you have no soul'. Check out The Ratells sooner rather than later. They are gonna be big and we all like to say I was there when.......

OK, gotta fly. potentially judging a battle of the bands at the RockBar tonight, kipper permitting.
