BAIBS Friday 10/05/13

I'm pottering. There's no two ways about it. Definitely pottering. It's the weigh in for Jamie McDonnell's title fight this afternoon and there's no point going home just to come back into town. So no walk home past buskers or through parks to discuss. Just me sat in the Sine FM office staring at a pen that makes guitar noises, an 18" blow up doll and a book that tells me that three of the top ten selling albums in the U.S.A. in the 90s were by Garth Brooks. If that wasn't a big enough worry the remaining seven spots are filled with the likes of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Hootie And The Blowfish and Shania Twain. OK Britpop may have not been huge in the States but, pigging hell, this was the decade of Pixies, Pearl Jam and Nirvana to name a few. To my left is a photo of what can only be described as Frank Wilkes urinating. It's still preferable to Hootie And The Blowfish though. What else do we have? A photo of a sleeping Mark Kelly and one of Keith Barron with a dog. Oh, and the trophy for the Sine FM quiz champions. (Mine and Rob's phone still). Told you I was pottering.

Got a text from James Page of Missing Pages fame during today's show asking for a song that proves that bassists are the most important member of a band. Allan Martin offered up The Stranglers as a good place to start, quite right too. I waded in with the iconic outro to Fleetwood Mac's The Chain. There has to be others?

So the weekend beckons. As I mentioned the weigh in this afternoon, work tonight then the fight itself tomorrow night. Seriously excited about that. It's the FA Cup final tomorrow. I'm that excited I'd forgot. How it is no longer the season finale is beyond me. The competition's been dumbed down beyond recognition to the mid-forties football fan. Sad times. Work again Sunday afternoon then back here at Sine FM Towers Monday morning. Not much room for naps there.

OK, I'm off to watch some men in shorts get weighed.
